2026–27 application calendar at a glance
Scholarship deadlines are genuinely spread across the whole year — missing one often means waiting a full 12 months. Bookmark this and check back as each window opens:
Windows shift slightly year to year — always confirm the exact current-cycle date on the official portal before you plan around it. Details on each below.
Chevening (UK) — open now for the 2027–28 intake
Deadline: 6 October 2026, 11:00 UTC. Applications for the 2027–28 cohort open around August 2026.
- Covers: full tuition, monthly living stipend, return airfare, visa costs, and arrival/departure allowances for a one-year UK master's at any UK university
- Eligibility: Pakistani citizenship; an undergraduate degree equivalent to a UK 2:1 (a 4-year Pakistani bachelor's typically qualifies); at least 2 years (2,800 hours) of work experience; commitment to return to Pakistan for 2 years after your degree
- What it's really assessing: Chevening isn't a purely academic scholarship — it's a leadership scholarship. Selection weighs leadership/influence, networking ability, a clear career plan, and study proposal quality more heavily than GPA alone
- Global acceptance rate: roughly 2–3% — treat the essays as the actual competition, not a formality
Fulbright (USA) — via USEFP
The 2027-cycle deadline (1 April 2026) has passed. The next cycle typically opens around November, so plan your GRE/TOEFL and recommendation letters now if you're targeting the next window.
- Covers: full tuition, living expenses, health insurance, and round-trip airfare for graduate study at a US university
- Eligibility: open to all fields (clinical medicine excluded; non-clinical public health is eligible), with particular encouragement for science, technology, AI, trade, economics, and natural resource management
- A genuinely useful detail: USEFP reimburses the GRE fee for applicants at HEC-approved public universities who score 300+ (engineering/science) or 290+ (humanities/social science) combined, on a limited first-come basis — attach the request with your application, not after
- Track record: over 9,000 Pakistanis have gone through USEFP exchange programmes since the foundation's inception in 1950
DAAD (Germany)
DAAD runs multiple parallel programmes rather than one single scholarship, each with its own deadline — this is the most common source of confusion for Pakistani applicants.
- Doctoral Programmes / Research Grants: deadline 31 August 2026, selection in February 2027, funding from May 2027
- EPOS (development-related postgraduate courses): university-first — you apply directly to a listed EPOS programme, and the university nominates you to DAAD. Deadlines vary by programme, typically October–December
- Helmut-Schmidt-Programme: deadline typically November — check the specific programme page for the current cycle
- Covers: €992/month for master's students, €1,300–1,400/month for doctoral candidates, full tuition waiver, health insurance, one-time travel allowance, and — usefully — funding for a preparatory German language course before your studies begin
- Eligibility: most programmes require at least 2 years of relevant work experience after your first degree, with preference given to candidates planning to return and apply their skills in Pakistan
Commonwealth Scholarship (UK)
Funded by the UK government specifically for students from low- and middle-income Commonwealth countries, including Pakistan, for Master's and PhD study.
- Covers: full tuition, living stipend, return airfare, and study-related travel within the UK
- Eligibility: varies by scheme (Master's, PhD, Split-Site PhD, Shared Scholarships) — most don't require prior work experience, unlike Chevening
- Application route: generally applied for alongside a UK university application through the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission's portal — check cscuk.fcdo.gov.uk for the current cycle's exact opening date
Türkiye Bursları (Turkey)
One of the most accessible fully-funded options for Pakistani students, covering Bachelor's, Master's, and PhD levels — and notably open to a wide range of academic backgrounds.
- Covers: full tuition, monthly stipend, free accommodation, health insurance, a one-year Turkish language course if needed, and return airfare
- Eligibility: generally requires a minimum GPA around 70% (undergraduate applicants) or higher for graduate levels, under a program-specific age limit
- Application route: entirely online via turkiyeburslari.gov.tr — no separate university application needed first
Australia Awards & Chinese Government Scholarship (CSC)
Australia Awards funds Master's study in Australia for candidates from developing countries, with a strong development/leadership focus similar to Chevening, typically opening applications around March–April.
CSC (China) offers full tuition, accommodation, a monthly stipend, and medical insurance across Bachelor's, Master's, and PhD levels, applied for either through the Chinese Embassy in Islamabad or directly through participating Chinese universities — deadlines typically fall in March–April, and it's one of the few fully-funded options genuinely open to undergraduate applicants.
How to actually decide which one to target
What actually strengthens any of these applications
- Start essays 3–6 months early. Reviewers read thousands of applications — generic essays are rejected quickly, and strong ones read as one coherent story across every essay/question, not disconnected answers
- Secure your university offer early where required. Chevening, for instance, requires an unconditional UK university offer by a mid-year deadline even after scholarship selection — don't leave this until the last stage
- Line up recommendation letters months in advance. Strong referees are busy people; a rushed, generic letter is one of the most common weak points in otherwise strong applications
- Don't apply to only one scholarship. Given acceptance rates in the low single digits for the most competitive options, a realistic strategy usually means applying to 2–3 well-matched programmes in the same cycle rather than betting everything on one
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I apply to more than one fully-funded scholarship in the same year?
Yes, and it's generally a sound strategy given how competitive these are — just make sure your essays are genuinely tailored to each programme's specific criteria rather than copy-pasted, since generic answers are usually the first thing that gets an application rejected.
Do I need work experience for all of these?
No — Chevening requires 2 years minimum, and DAAD's development-focused programmes generally expect relevant experience, but Commonwealth Scholarships, CSC, and Türkiye Bursları are largely open to recent graduates and, in some cases, undergraduate applicants with no work experience required.
What happens if I miss a deadline?
Most of these run annual cycles, so missing one typically means waiting a full year for the next window. This is exactly why tracking deadlines early and starting essays months in advance matters more for scholarships than for standard university applications.
Which of these is realistically the easiest to get?
"Easiest" isn't really the right frame — all are competitive. But Türkiye Bursları and CSC tend to have larger intake numbers and lower minimum experience requirements than Chevening or Fulbright, which can make them more accessible for recent graduates without leadership-heavy profiles.
Do I need IELTS/TOEFL before I apply?
Requirements vary — some scholarships accept a conditional application while you finalise your English test, others require it upfront. Either way, start test preparation 3–4 months before your target date, since many applicants need more than one attempt to hit the required band.
